Australia’s Northern Territory Wine Regions… You’re probably thinking since when does NT have winery’s? Since the early 2000s actually. We know that part of Australia is best known for it’s dramatic landscapes, ancient culture, and super iconic landmarks, but they’re also home to a small yet emerging wine scene. While not as established as other Australian wine hotspots, these regions are pushing boundaries, experimenting with unique varietals, and creating an adventurous experience for wine lovers. Let’s explore red region…

  • The Red Centre
  • The Top End

The Red Centre

The Red Centre is quite literally as it seems, the centre of Australia that is full of red landscapes and dry climate. This is where you’ll find one of the 7 wonders of the world – Uluru. So how on earth do they grow grapes? Despite the challenges of grape-growing here, passionate winemakers are forced to take innovative approaches and grow heat-tolerant grape varieties.

The climate lends itself to bold, hardy reds like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Above the wine, the heart of the Red Centre boasts Aboriginal art galleries and adventure experiences like hot-air ballooning over the desert

The Top End

In the northern part of the state you’ll find The Top End… As you can tell the naming police weren’t so inspired when coming up with these region names. The Top End features Darwin and lush areas like Kakadu National Park. Here, the tropical climate presents winemakers with another set of challenges, but it also enables the production of refreshing, fruit-forward wines perfect for hot weather.

It’s known for varietals like Verdelho, with its fruity, vibrant flavour that pairs well with the tropical environment. Further to the wine region, The Top End offers countless outdoor experiences, from crocodile safaris to exploring the lush waterfalls of Litchfield National Park.
